movie illustrates impact of dyslexia
My friend Lalpi recommended a film the other night that left us laughing and crying, Taare Zameen Par, or Every Child is Special. This film produced and directed by Aamir Khan tells the story of a young boy in India who loves life but hates school. As the adults around him become more critical of his character and inability to perform to their expecations he retreats or acts out. I was so broken and astonished by the characterization of our own experiences with dyslexia. It was if I was watching my own son re-live those troubled days before we understood what was really going on in his head and heart. I relived those moments of pain that came from hearing my son at 6 say "you don’t know how hard it is for me!" and at 7 "I am loosing all my abilities!" I heartedly recommend this film if you know anyone who faces the challenges of dyslexia or some other language-based learning challenge. This film is a beautiful splash of colour and filled with hope.
