The Resurgence has published a very practical article by John Piper on Spiritual Gifts.  A couple of of his observations and questions are quite helpful.  1.  He suggests that the root problem of "not knowing about your spiritual gifts" may be that you are not really interested in the purpose of spiritual gifts–and that is to strengthen others in the walk with Christ and to strengthen the Body of Christ.  2.  He suggests that we don’t need to get too stressed out about naming our spiritual gift–just focus on discovering what you can do to strengthen others in their faith.  3.  He suggests that church leaders should look for this attitude of service in people and not just their "spiritual gift."

I agree.  The servant’s heart is essential to Christian character.  Give me character before gifting and the gifting will accomplish the Spirit’s intended outcomes.
