avoiding submissions in the Kingdom Life, introduction
The Devil always wants us to "tap out" and declare our own defeat, inspite of the victory of the Suffering Servant. The Accuser of the Brethren is looking for ways to hinder our movement and experience of the full Presence of Jesus in the Kingdom of God. The Apostle Paul declared, "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12 This epic struggle is one in which we are enticed into a wrestling match that is not really ours. The struggle is for us to apprehend the victory of Christ and to make a stand.
Like wrestlers in a ring, the Devil seeks to hinder our progress in the Kingdom of Jesus by forcing us into a submission. I have found it helpful to apply the "negative" directives Jesus made in his "Sermon on the Mount" in order to gain insight into what hinders our progress in the mission of the Kingdom. I believe these five "negatives" shed light on the "holds" that are common to anyone who seeks to let the light of the rule and reign of Jesus shine forth from their life. There are probably more of them, but in the sermon on the Mount Jesus tells his disciples:
Do not think I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets… Matthew 5:17
Be careful not to do your "acts of righteousness" before men to be seen by them. Matthew 6:1
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… Matthew 6:19
Do not worry about your life… Matthew 6:25
Do not judge… Matthew 7:1
Each of these is a submission that we are to avoid. To entertain these and be habitually ruled by these is to be dramatically hindered from the mission of God.
